CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!Jon Frasiers mother, Helena Bomer, screamed as the final seconds ticked off Western Kentuckys NCAA Division I-AA championship win over McNeese State on Friday night. Im so excited, she said. Its been a wonderful season. The fans chanted W-K-U!The best team won, said Dave Milton, a longtime fan from Louisville. Were the best team. Tim Colovos of Bowling Green came to the game with his brother, Kelly, and father, Alex. Our wives let us come to the game, Tim Colovos said. Alex Colovos was happy with the amount of Western fans at the game. Weve got as many as they do, he said. The Colovoses were cheering on family member Brian Lowder. Cyndi Allen of Concord, N.C., came to the game with her Hilltopper husband, Ted. We heard they made it (to the championship game), Cyndi Allen said. I think its pretty exciting. The win was really special for Ted Allen. It will be a good birthday present for me, Allen said. Ted Allen was hoping for more fans. The ones that came out were loud, Allen said. Wes Watt, a Bowling Green junior, said his trip back to Bowling Green will be easier with the win. Im excited, Watt said. They deserved it. This is unbelievable. Charles Hardin, a 1978 Western graduate who now lives in Salyersville, brought his 6-month-old daughter to her first football game, a championship for Daddys alma mater. When I was in college was the last time they made it, Hardin said. I didnt want to chance living another 25 years. Hardins wife, Machelle, just started graduate school at Western. She just became a Hilltopper, Hardin said. We are thrilled. Most of Hardins neighbors follow the University of Kentucky. I may live in Big Blue country, but I bleed red, Hardin said. Ben Mooney, a 1993 graduate who lives in Evansville, Ind., didnt expect the Hilltoppers to win this year. This is awesome, Mooney said. The drive back to Evansville may be easier with the win, but it could be harder. All the partying were going to do tonight, I dont know, Mooney said. Once the Hilltoppers got to the game, Mooney was confident of a victory. I had a good feeling since (McNeese State) beat us earlier in the year, Mooney said. Its hard to beat a team twice. The Hilltoppers had a good season last year, but fell short of their expectations. We just wanted them to finish what they started last year, Bomer said. We finished.
