Mac Horvath hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year, but it wasn’t enough for the Bowling Green Hot Rods in a 5-3 loss to the Winston-Salem Dash in South Atlantic League action on Sunday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

For the sixth consecutive game of the series, Bowling Green (18-15) scored the first runs of the game, this time in the top of the third inning against MLB rehabber Jesse Scholtens. Bryan Broecker led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and moved to third on a ground ball from Adrian Santana. Aidan Smith plated him with another groundout, giving the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead.

Winston-Salem (12-21) took the lead in the bottom of the third inning against Bowling Green starter Gary Gill Hill. Jeral Perez and Braden Montgomery walked to start the inning, and Cole McConnell singled, loading the bases. Alec Makarewicz reached on fielder’s choice and Montgomery scored on a wild pitch. McConnell and Makarewicz scored on a Luis Pineda base hit, making it a 3-1 Dash lead.

Winston-Salem added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a Montgomery RBI double, bringing the lead to 4-1.

The Hot Rods responded in the top of the sixth against Dash reliever Tommy Vail. With one out, Emilien Pitre doubled and Horvath blasted a two-run homer to left, making it a 4-3 Winston-Salem lead.

The Dash plated an additional run in the bottom of the seventh with Hot Rods reliever Junior William on the mound. Arxy Hernandez hit a one-out, solo homer, extending Winston-Salem’s lead to 5-3.

Bowling Green couldn’t find any offense the rest of the way, losing 5-3.

Vail (2-0) picked up his second win of the year, going five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out eight. Gill Hill (1-2) surrendered three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five in his second loss of the season.

The Hot Rods enjoy an off-day Monday before starting a six-game set against the Asheville Tourists at Bowling Green Ballpark on Tuesday with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.

Mac Horvath belted his team-leading seventh homer of the year and Raudelis Martinez knocked in three runs, while Garrett Edwards tossed six scoreless innings to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 7-0 win over the Winston-Salem Dash in South Atlantic League action Saturday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After Edwards and Winston-Salem starting pitcher Lucas Gordon dealt zeros for the first four frames, Bowling Green (18-14) plated the first run in the top of the fifth inning. Aidan Smith worked a two-out walk, and Horvath blasted a two-run homer to left, giving the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead.

The Hot Rods continued the scoring, driving in four runs in the top of the eighth inning against Dash reliever Madison Jeffrey. Ryan Spikes doubled with one out, while Jhon Diaz and Hunter Haas walked, loading the bases. Martinez doubled to left, scoring Spikes and Diaz, making it a 4-0 game. A walk from Bryan Broecker reloaded the bases, and Adrian Santana singled to center, scoring Haas and Martinez, enlarging the lead to 6-0.

The final run came in to score in the top of the ninth for Bowling Green against Winston-Salem reliever Joseph Yabbour. Noah Myers singled, and one out later, Diaz walked. Martinez came through with his second RBI base hit of the night, bring the score to 7-0.

Bowling Green’s Jack Snyder tossed a scoreless ninth frame, ending the game with a 7-0 win for the Hot Rods.

Edwards (3-1) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, and struck out five in his third win of the season. Gordon (1-3) hurled five innings, surrendering two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out six in his third loss of the year for Winston-Salem (11-21).

The Hot Rods and Dash play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday at Truist Stadium with a 1 p.m. CT first pitch. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Gary Gill Hill (1-1, 3.13) against Winston-Salem’s MLB rehabber, righty Jesse Scholtens (0-0, 9.00).

Marcus Johnson went six strong innings while Aidan Smith and Noah Myers drove in runs in extra innings, helping the Bowling Green Hot Rods take a 5-4 win over the Winston-Salem Dash in 10 innings on Friday in South Atlantic League action at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

For the fourth consecutive game of the series, Bowling Green (17-14) brought in the first run of the game, this time against Winston-Salem starter Tanner McDougal. Myers led off with a double, and Daniel Vellojin drove him in with a base hit, putting the Hot Rods in the lead, 1-0.

Bowling Green added on in the top of the fourth with McDougal still on the mound. With two outs, Hunter Haas singled and Jhon Diaz walked. Blake Robertson roped a double to right, scoring both runners, lengthening the Hot Rods’ lead to 3-0.

The Dash (11-20) drove in their first run in the bottom of the sixth against Johnson. Sam Antonacci led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Cole McConnell singled to right, scoring Antonacci, making it a 3-1 game.

Winston-Salem tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning against Bowling Green reliever Jackson Lancaster. Terrell Tatum reached on a fielder’s choice and Antonacci singled. Jeral Perez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Braden Montgomery lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tatum and Antonacci, tying the game at 3-3.

The game was forced into extra innings, with the Hot Rods bringing in runs against Dash reliever Mark McLaughlin in the 10th inning. Ryan Spikes pinch ran for Robertson, starting the inning at second base. Smith drove in Spikes with a single, giving the Hot Rods a 4-3 lead. Emilien Pitre was intentionally walked and Smith advanced to third on a Mac Horvath flyout. Myers ran out an infield single, scoring Smith, making it a 5-3 Hot Rods lead.

The Dash brought in one run in the bottom of the 10th, but Derrick Edington held strong for the save, locking up a 5-4 win for Bowling Green.

Lancaster (2-0) got the win, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two over three innings. McLaughlin (0-2) picked up his second loss of the season, tossing 2 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out four. Edington earned his third save of the season, going one inning, allowing one unearned run on one hit.

The Hot Rods and Dash play the penultimate game of the series on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. CT pitch at Truist Stadium. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Garrett Edwards (2-1, 3.21) against Winston-Salem lefty Lucas Gordon (1-2, 2.73).

Mac Horvath belted a two-run homer and TJ Nichols spun six solid innings, boosting the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 3-2 win over the Winston-Salem Dash in South Atlantic League action Thursday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After rain in the area forced a delayed start, the Hot Rods (16-14) scored their first runs in the top of the first inning against Dash starter Seth Keener. With two outs, Emilien Pitre reached on a fielder’s choice, and Horvath blasted a two-run homer to left to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead.

Winston-Salem (11-19) responded in the bottom of the third against Nichols. Samuel Zaval led off with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Two outs later, Sam Antonacci knocked in Zavala with a double, making it a 2-1 game.

One run came around to score for the Hot Rods in the top of the fourth with Keener still on the mound. With two outs, Ryan Spikes walked, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Daniel Vellojin doubled to right, scoring Spikes to give the Hot Rods a 3-1 lead.

The Dash plated their second run in the bottom of the sixth with Nichols still on the mound. Braden Montgomery collected a one-out double and came in to score on an Arxy Hernandez double, making it 3-2.

The score would stay the rest of the way, with Adam Boucher and Chris Villaman combining for three innings of scoreless relief work, locking down a 3-2 Hot Rod victory.

Nichols (2-1) picked up his second win of the season, dealing six innings while allowing two runs on six hits, walking none and striking out three. Keener (0-4) was given the loss, going four innings, surrendering three runs on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Villaman earned his first save of the season, pitching two scoreless innings with one strikeout.

The Hot Rods and Dash play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch at Truist Stadium. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Marcus Johnson (2-2, 5.23) against Winston-Salem righty Tanner McDougal (0-2, 3.42).

Jhon Diaz and Ryan Spikes each drove in two runs and Hayden Snelsire dealt 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods couldn’t hold off the Winston-Salem Dash in a 7-6 loss on Wednesday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Hot Rods (15-14) jumpstarted the scoring in the top of the first inning against Dash starting pitcher Jake Bockenstedt. With two outs, Mac Horvath doubled, and Noah Myers drove him in with a base hit. Spikes stepped up to the plate and mashed a two-run homer, giving Bowling Green a 3-0 lead.

Winston-Salem (11-18) plated a run in the bottom of the second against Bowling Green reliever Gerlin Rosario. With two outs, Jackson Appel doubled, and Wes Kath knocked him in with a single, making it a 3-1 game.

Bowling Green added to their score in the top of the third with Bockenstedt still on the mound. Emilien Pitre led off with a double and Myers singled, putting runners at the corners. A throwing error from the catcher Appel allowed Pitre to score. One out later, Diaz plated Myers with a triple to right, making it a 5-1 Hot Rods lead.

The Dash tallied their second run in the bottom of the third on a double from Jeral Perez and an error from Rosario, bringing the score to 5-2.

Winston-Salem brought in another run in the bottom of the fourth with Rosario still on the mound. Arxy Hernandez led off with a triple, Appel walked, Samuel Zavala walked, and Sam Antonacci pushed in a run with another walk, making it a 6-3 game.

The score would stay until the bottom of the ninth inning with the Dash scoring against Hot Rods reliever Garrett Gainey. Jordan Sprinkle collected a one-out double and stole third base. Antonacci was hit by a pitch and Perez singled in Sprinkle, making it 6-4. Braden Montgomery stepped in and blasted a three-run, walk off homer, leading the Dash to a 7-6 win.

Madison Jeffrey (1-1) earned the win, tossing two perfect innings of relief while striking out one. Gainey (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out two.

The Hot Rods and Dash play the third game of a six-game series with a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch at Truist Stadium. Bowling Green will send out right-hander TJ Nichols (1-1, 2.18) against Winston-Salem righty Seth Keener (0-3, 13.00).

Emilien Pitre’s ninth-inning homer wasn’t enough to complete a comeback for the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the 7-5 loss to the Winston-Salem Dash on Tuesday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Bowling Green (15-13) scored the first runs of the game in the top of the first inning against MLB rehabber Jesse Scholtens. Adrian Santana led off with a walk and Aidan Smith tripled him home. One out later, Mac Horvath lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Smith, giving Bowling Green a 2-0 lead.

The Dash answered in the bottom of the first inning against Hot Rods starter Gary Gill Hill. Sam Antonacci doubled, and Braden Montgomery homered to left, tying the game, 2-2.

Each team brought in a run in the second inning. Bowling Green received a two-out RBI single from Raudelis Martinez and Winston-Salem scored on a Samuel Zavala base hit, keeping the game tied, 3-3.

Winston-Salem gained the lead in the bottom of the third inning with Gill Hill still on the mound. Jeral Perez was hit by a pitch and Montgomery hit his second homer of the game, giving the Dash a 5-3 lead.

The Dash plated additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings on doubles from Zavala and Wes Kath, making it 7-3.

In the top of the ninth, the Hot Rods plated their final runs against Dash reliever Carson Jacobs. Martinez walked, and two outs later, Pitre homered to left, bring the score to 7-5. That was all the offense the Hot Rods could muster, losing 7-5 to the Dash.

Tommy Vail (1-0) earned the win, going four hitless innings, allowing four walks while striking out four in his first win of the season. Gill Hill (1-1) was given the loss, surrendering six runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out two.

The Hot Rods and Dash play the second game of a six-game series on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch at Truist Stadium. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Santiago Suarez (0-1, 1.85) against Winston-Salem lefty Jake Bockenstedt (1-2, 4.68).

Mac Horvath’s team-leading fifth homer of the season boosted the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 5-3 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds in South Atlantic League action on Sunday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland.

The IronBirds (10-17) brought in the first run of the game in the bottom of first inning against Hot Rods starter Garrett Edwards. Vance Honeycutt walked and advanced to second on an Ethan Anderson single. Austin Overn hit into a fielder’s choice, moving Honeycutt to third. Overn stole second, and on a throwing error from Bryan Broecker, Honeycutt scored to give Aberdeen a 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green (15-12) plated its first run in the top of the fifth against MLB rehabber Andrew Kittredge. With one out, Blake Robertson doubled. Broecker drove him in with a single to center, tying the game, 1-1.

Aberdeen regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with Edwards still on the mound. Anderson De Los Santos led off with a single, and two outs later, Angel Tejada doubled to put runners on second and third. Honeycutt singled to center, scoring both runs, giving Aberdeen a 3-1 lead.

The Hot Rods brought in a run in the top of the sixth against IronBirds reliever Robinson Martinez. Horvath led off with a walk and stole second base. Two outs later, Daniel Vellojin singled to right, plating Horvath, bringing the score to 3-2.

Bowling Green tied the game in the top of the eighth on a Jhon Diaz RBI groundout, evening the score, 3-3. Neither team scored in the ninth, sending the game to extra innings.

Bowling Green kept the momentum rolling in the top of the 10th against Aberdeen pitcher Angel Tejada. With Emilien Pitre at second as the extra-innings runner, Horvath launched a two-run homer to lead off the inning, putting Bowling Green ahead, 5-3.

Jack Snyder locked up the bottom half, finishing off a 5-3 Hot Rods win.

Derrick Edington (1-1) earned the win, tossing a scoreless inning while allowing just one hit. Tejada (1-1) was given the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with one strikeout over an inning. Snyder got the save, pitching a perfect inning with one strikeout.

The Hot Rods enjoy an off-day on Monday and will take on the Winston-Salem Dash on Tuesday, starting a six-game series in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch.

Another run came in to score for the Hot Rods in the top of the third against IronBirds pitcher Trey Gibson. With one out, Horvath blasted a solo homer to left, extending the Bowling Green advantage, 4-0.

Aberdeen (10-16) responded in the bottom of the fourth against Johnson. With two outs, Austin Overn singled and stole second base. Leandro Arias singled to left, scoring Overn, making it a 4-1 game.

The IronBirds added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer from Aneudis Mordan, bringing the score to 4-2.

The IronBirds brought in their final run in the bottom of the ninth against Hot Rods reliever Hayden Snelsire. Arias led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Mordan drove in Arias with a single, but Snelsire locked down his first save of the season with the Hot Rods winning 4-3.

Johnson (2-2) earned his second win of the season, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Pennington (0-1) was given the loss, working through 0.2 innings, allowing three runs on one hit with two walks. Snelsire logged his first save of the year, surrendering one run on one hit, walking one and striking out one over 1 2/3 innings.

The Hot Rods and IronBirds will play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. CT first pitch. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Garrett Edwards (2-1, 3.13) against Aberdeen righty Michael Forret (0-1, 1.66).

TJ Nichols tossed six solid innings while Jhon Diaz launched his second homer of the season, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 4-1 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds in South Atlantic League action Friday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland.

For the first time in the series, Aberdeen (10-15) scored the first run of the game. In the bottom of the second inning against Nichols, Aaron Estrada singled and Jake Cunningham was hit by a pitch. Ryan Stafford hit into a fielder’s choice and a throwing error by Hunter Haas put runners on the corners. Cunningham scored on a wild pitch, giving Aberdeen a 1-0 lead.

The Hot Rods (13-12) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning against IronBirds starter Nestor German. With two outs in the inning, Diaz launched a solo homer to left, tying the game at 1-1.

Bowling Green took the lead in the top of the sixth with German still on the mound. Adrian Santana led off with a double, and one out later, Émilien Pitre doubled him home to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead.

Two more runs came around to score for the Hot Rods in the top of the eighth against IronBirds reliever Hayden Nierman. Raudelis Martinez and Santana led off the inning with walks. Aidan Smith stepped in, knocked a single into center, scoring both runners to make it a 4-1 Hot Rods advantage.

Hot Rods relievers Garrett Gainey and Derrick Edington shut down the IronBirds the rest of the way, resulting in a 4-1 Bowling Green victory.

Nichols (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, tossing six innings while allowing one unearned run on one hit with one walk and six strikeouts. German (0-1) was given the loss, surrendering two runs on five hits while striking out seven across 5 1/3 innings. Edington earned his second save of the year, pitching a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

The Hot Rods and IronBirds play the penultimate game of the series on Saturday with a 6:05 p.m. CT first pitch at Ripken Stadium. Bowling Green will send out right-hander Marcus Johnson (1-2, 5.76) against Aberdeen righty Trey Gibson (0-2, 8.04).

The Bowling Green Hot Rods fell 3-2 at Aberdeen on Thursday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Hunter Haas drove in both runs for Bowling Green (12-12) but it wasn’t enough, with Aberdeen (10-14) snapping a two game skid against the Hot Rods.

For the third consecutive game, the Hot Rods brought in the first run of the game, this time in the top of the fourth inning against IronBirds starter Blake Money. Noah Myers led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Daniel Vellojin moved him to third on a groundout and Hunter Haas singled Myers in to score, giving Bowling Green a 1-0 lead.

The score would stick until the bottom of the eighth inning when Aberdeen plated their first runs against Bowling Green reliever Adam Boucher. Leandro Arias, Angel Tejada, Jalen Vazquez, and Griff O’Ferral worked consecutive walks to tie the game, 1-1. Jack Snyder entered for the Hot Rods, walking Ethan Anderson to give Aberdeen a 2-1 lead.

Bowling Green fought back with a game-tying run in the top of the ninth against Aberdeen reliever Dominic Freeburger. Mac Horvath cracked a two-out double, Myers was intentionally walked, and Vellojin walked to load the bases. Haas was hit by a pitch, pushing in a run, tying the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Aberdeen scored the game winning run off Snyder. Ryan Stafford led off with a double and advanced to third on an Arias sacrifice bunt. Tejada walked and O’Ferral laid down a bunt single to win the game, 3-2.

Tejada (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, recording the final out of the top of the ninth. Snyder (0-2) received the loss, tossing 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits with two walks.

The Hot Rods and IronBirds will play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday with a 6:05 PM CT first pitch at Ripken Stadium. Bowling Green will send out RHP TJ Nichols (0-1, 3.07) against Aberdeen RHP Nestor German (0-0, 4.60).
