GLASGOW Glasgow High School sophomore center Ryan Landrum must have ice water running through his veins. Landrum calmly stepped to the free-throw line with seven seconds left and his team leading 74-72 Tuesday. Both of his charity tosses swished through the net. Landrums clutch free throws helped Glasgow hold off a late charge from Todd County Central, as the Scotties advanced in Fourth Region All A Classic action with a 76-72 basketball victory Tuesday. It was a high-level performance by two teams, Glasgow coach Bart Flener said. It wasnt like there wasnt any defense being played. Guys were going and making plays on both sides. Neither team led by more than two points for most of the first quarter until Glasgow (13-4) went on a 7-0 run in the final 1:28 to take a 24-18 lead. Todd County Central (9-5) finally pulled even with 2:08 left in the first half. But Glasgow wasted no time regaining momentum, scoring 12 straight points to take a 45-33 halftime lead. Todd County Central coach Dennis Pardue said that run was a turning point in the contest. We played well for 14 minutes, Pardue said. Glasgow is a team of spurts. They are going to run 10 or 12 points off real quick, but we are, too. It just so happened they did at that crucial time. The Rebels climbed back into the contest, holding the Scotties without a field goal for the first 4:49 of the third quarter while cutting the lead to 47-44.Glasgow then made another late quarter spurt, getting six points from Brandon Stockton in the final 1:17 of the third to build a 59-51 lead. The Rebels had one last surge, outscoring the Scotties 9-2 over the next 2:15 to make it 61-60. Glasgow got the lead back up to five, but Craig Russells three-point play made it 72-70 with 1:22 left. The teams then exchanged baskets, making it 74-72. Todd County Central had a chance to win following a Stockton turnover, but Dustin Lopez missed a 3-point attempt and William Stewarts putback try was pulled down by Landrum to seal the win. Stockton led Glasgow with 28 points; Russell led the Rebels with 21. The Scotties travel to Clinton County on Friday to face the winner of Clinton County-Metcalfe County in the finals of the Fourth Region All A Classic. Glasgow (5-10) fell behind 24-7 with three minutes left in the first half, but climbed back into the contest by outscoring Todd County Central (9-5) 18-7 in the third quarter. Todd County Central pulled away in the fourth, with Erica Gordian scoring 11 of her game-high 21 points for the Lady Rebels. We had plenty of opportunities; we just couldnt get the ball to fall, Glasgow coach Mike Harris said. We used so much energy down 17 in the game, we just came up short in the end. I think if we could have ever gotten the lead, it would have been a different story.
