GLASGOW — Magistrates again have changed their minds, deciding this week to demolish another building to make room for a county office facility. The county first bought the Newberry Building on North Public Square to renovate but later decided to demolish it and start from scratch.Shortly after Judge-Executive Freddie Travis took office in January and after the Newberry Building had been destroyed, he halted the project to consider other options.Fiscal Court then decided in August to buy a building adjacent to the Newberry property. The plan was to construct a three-story structure on the Newberry property and renovate the two-story building, annexing the new with the old.But Fiscal Court now has decided it would be better to have one new, three-story building and voted 6-1 to demolish the newest building.
