BlueClaws clip Hot Rods 2-1

Yoniel Curet pushed across a career-high six innings of work, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods were held to two hits in a 2-1 loss to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Wednesday at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, New Jersey.

Bowling Green (13-10) began the scoring in the top of the first inning against Jersey Shore starter Sam Aldegheri. Chandler Simpson led off with a single and Brayden Taylor walked to put a runner in scoring position. After moving up to third on a wild pitch, Simpson scored on an RBI groundout by Cooper Kinney to put the Hot Rods up 1-0.

The BlueClaws (10-13) took the lead in the bottom of the sixth against Hot Rods starter Yoniel Curet. Bryan Rincon singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Hendry Mendez walked and came around to score with Rincon on a throwing error by catcher Angel Galarraga, making it a 2-1 ballgame.

The Hot Rods offense was shut out in the ninth, losing by a final score of 2-1.

Aldegheri (2-0) earned the win, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and totaling seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Curet (0-3) took the loss, allowing two runs (zero earned) on four hits, two walks and seven strikeouts over six frames. Wesley Moore collected the save with a strikeout in a scoreless ninth.

Bowling Green and Jersey Shore play game three of a six-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m. CT. The Hot Rods send right-hander Duncan Davitt (1-1, 3.48) to the mound, while the BlueClaws start righty Estibenzon Jimenez (0-4, 6.87).
