Garcia’s six shutout frames lead Hot Rods to 3-0 win

The Bowling Green Hot Rods hurled their second shutout of the series behind a career-high six innings from Roel Garcia III, taking down the Hudson Valley Renegades 3-0 at Heritage Financial Park on Saturday in Wappingers Falls, New York.
The lone scoring inning came in the top of the fifth against Renegades starter Kyle Carr. Bowling Green’s Ryan Spikes roped a one-out triple to left. Cooper Kinney doubled down to right, scoring Spikes, giving the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead.
Xavier Isaac continued the inning with a base hit to left, plating Kinney to extend the lead, 2-0. On the play, Isaac moved up to third on a throwing error by Jace Avina.
Hudson Valley (11-8) made a pitching change, giving the ball to reliever Leonardo Pestana, and balked in Isaac from third to make it a 3-0 lead.
Hot Rods relievers Drew Sommers and Jonny Cuevas combined for three scoreless frames from the bullpen, locking down a 3-0 win for Bowling Green (12-7).
Garcia III (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, spinning six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out three. Carr (0-1) was given his first loss of the year while working through 4 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Cuevas earned his first save of the campaign with a hitless inning with one walk and one strikeout.
The Hot Rods and Renegades play the finale of a six-game series Sunday with a 12:05 p.m. CT first pitch. Bowling Green calls on right-hander Trevor Martin (2-0, 2.78) and will go against Hudson Valley lefty Cam Schlittler (2-0, 0.60).
