Renegades deal 5-1 loss to visiting Hot Rods

In his second straight start, Duncan Davitt tossed a career-high six innings, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods were held to five hits in a 5-1 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades on Friday from Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, New York. 

In the top of the fourth inning, the Hot Rods (11-8) took a 1-0 lead off Renegades starter Sebastian Keane. Brayden Taylor worked a lead-off walk and came around to score on an RBI double from Colton Ledbetter.

Hudson Valley (11-7) answered back in the bottom of the fifth against Davitt. Rafael Flores doubled and Kiko Romero homered to put the Renegades up 2-1.

The Renegades scored two more runs off Davitt in the bottom of the sixth. Jesus Rodriguez led off with a double and was plated on an RBI triple from Omar Martinez. With Martinez at third, Josh Moylan ripped a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Martinez to extend the lead, 4-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hudson Valley increased the lead off Bowling Green pitcher Jeff Hakanson. Cole Gabrielson doubled and scored on an RBI base hit by Jace Avina, making it a 5-1 ballgame.

Bowling Green went scoreless the rest of the way, falling by a score of 5-1.

Keane (1-2) earned the win, allowing a run on four hits, one walk and 10 strikeouts over six frames. Davitt (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits, one walk and eight strikeouts over six innings. Matt Keating got the save for the Renegades, surrendering one hit and striking out three over three scoreless innings.

Bowling Green and Hudson Valley play the penultimate game of the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 4:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Roel Garcia (1-1, 2.08) starts for the Hot Rods, while the Renegades start lefty Kyle Carr (0-0, 3.72).
