The 23-day-old mystery of two Simpson Countians disappearances has brought little but frustration to law enforcement officers who are still searching for clues. Lisa Diane Shelton, 34, and Steve Carter Hooks, 45, both of Franklin, were seentalking around midnight Sept. 11 in Sheltons car in a Bowling Green parking lot.It appears to be the last time anyone has seen either. Its like they dropped off the face of the earth, Franklin police Chief Jamie Powell said. Franklin and Bowling Green police and Simpson County Sheriffs Department are conducting a joint investigation into the disappearances, but leads have run thin. Bowling Green police have confirmed the disappearances likely are connected, andSheltons car is being treated as a possible crime scene. Shelton was reported missing after failing to return home from an outing to Bowling Green, and her gold Toyota Camry was found slightly battered in Greenwood Courtyards parking lot. Its front windshield was cracked, apparently from the inside, and its front tires were drained of air. No blood was found inside or outside the vehicle. Hooks wife, Gayle, reported him missing a few hours later after he failed to return home. His burgundy Chevrolet Blazer has not been found. Shelton is an aide at Franklins alternative school, Learning Opportunities Center, and isFranklin-Simpson High Schools cheerleading sponsor. Hooks, who previously worked at Franklin-Simpson High School, is in his third year as one of two assistant principals at Greenwood High School, where he also coached football for twoyears. He was the favorite assistant principal, Greenwood sophomore Jennifer Duncan said. Simpson County Sheriff Joe Palma said his deputies still are checking spots around Simpson County and keeping in touch with the families involved. Palma, who has coached football with Hooks and knows Sheltons husband, Greg, said the important thing to do is not draw any conclusions and keep looking. Greg and Diane Shelton have two daughters, ages 8 and 11. Warren Countyschools Superintendent Leonard McCoy said nothing has changed for Hooks and his job, now vacant for three weeks, remains open for him.
