Pimpleton’s status uncertain

No news may be bad news for Western Kentucky University quarterback Donte Pimpleton. Pimpletons left knee was scoped Sunday after he reinjured it Saturday in the Hilltoppers 21-15 win over Murray State at L.T. Smith Stadium. After scoring on an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Pimpleton hopped off the field and did not play the rest of the game. Head Western trainer Bill Edwards said no new damage to Pimpletons knee turned up Sunday. We were hoping some of the new pain might be from some cartilage damage or something, Edwards said. But that all turned out OK. Hilltopper head coach Jack Harbaugh was unavailable for comment this morning. Edwards said Sundays scope will likely keep Pimpleton out at least seven to 10 days, meaning Jason Michael will be the probable starting quarterback when the Hilltoppers (4-1 overall, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) travel to rival Eastern Kentucky (4-1, 1-0) on Saturday. Edwards did say that surgery is not in the immediate plans for Pimpleton. I dont think surgerys an option right now, Edwards said. But after next week, were kind of right back where we were with him. Pimpleton tore the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Westerns season-opening win at Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 2. The injury kept Pimpleton out for all but one play in Westerns next three games before he returned to the starting lineup Saturday. Pimpleton started Sept. 11 against Cumberland (Tenn.) but came out of the game after the first play. While he had platooned with Sylvester Gray for much of the first four games, Michael was Pimpletons lone substitute against Murray State.
