Logan County Fiscal Court on Friday approved a solid waste management plan for the next five years. At previous meetings, magistrates debated whether the county should maintain a full-time solid waste coordinator. Several magistrates in the past have clashed with coordinator Denny Harris and the court earlier voted to take away Harris enforcement powers. They voted on the plan (Friday) and didnt say anything about the coordinators position, Logan County Judge-Executive John Guion said. So it is still full-time. In other matters, magistrates accepted a bid of $32,500 from Evans Equipment for the installation of a heating and cooling system at the old jail. As soon as that gets installed probably March the sheriffs office will move in, Guion said. The building has been vacant for more than a year. County workers and inmates helped make other improvements at the facility, but plans had been stalled about the heating and cooling installation. It took some time to get the specifications prepared, Guion said at a previous meeting. Magistrates also cast fiscal courts five ballots to reappoint John Ferris to an at-large director for the countys economic development commission. Other participating governments also have a vote on the matter. Guion appointed Magistrate Harold Prince to be the courts representative on the commission for 2003.
